Abstract

Lonchopisthus sinuscalifornicus Castro-Aguirre & Villavicencio-Garayzar, 1988 (Perciformes: Opistognathidae) is reported as a new record of the Peruvian ichthyological fauna. This new record is based on the collection of two adult specimens in the localities of Grau and Playa Hermosa, in the Tumbes Region, far north of the Peruvian maritime domain, being the first documented record of this species in our country. This identification in Peruvian waters extends the southern limit of its distribution to Tumbes, Peru. The specimens of 264 mm and 330 mm TL (184 mm and 219 mm SL) were identified according to the last revision of the genus by Smith-Vaniz & Walsh in 2017
