Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effects of oceanographic periods on the landing volumes of marine invertebrates in Pacasmayo between 2015 and 2017. Data on landing volumes, temperature, and salinity were obtained from the IMARPE’s fixed station at such location. The oceanographic conditions were known with the temperature and sea surface salinity variables; a total of eight periods were identified, B was warm and of longer duration (12 months); while, E was transitional, of shorter duration (1 month). Hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) with 75% similarity and Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) with stress 0.19 formed six groups (landing volumes) with the oceanographic periods, which were five warm and transitional, while one group was neutral. Panulirus gracilis S. “green spiny lobster” and Xiphopenaeus riveti B. “titi shrimp” showed an expansion in their space-time distribution around the warm periods; the opposite happened with Platyxanthus orbignyi “purple stone crab” in the transitional and neutral periods, which directly modified its accessibility and availability for artisanal fisheries.
