Abstract

This study presents the results of zooplankton samples analyzed during the Hydroacoustic Pelagic Resources Cruise 1709-11, conducted from September 29 to November 9, 2017, covering the area from Punta Sal to Morro Sama. We identified eggs and larvae of 30 families and 49 species of ichthyoplankton. Among these, Engraulis ringens eggs and larvae were the most abundant, ranging from 3 to 9,000 eggs.m-2, and from 3 to 1,602 larvae.m-2, respectively. The highest spawning activities were observed in the coastal areas from Paita to Independencia Bay and off the coast of Ilo. Larvae, with a wider distribution, were found in small clusters between Paita and Punta La Negra and between Pimentel and Malabrigo. Vinciguerria lucetia eggs also exhibited high densities, ranging from 3 to 15,480 eggs.m-2, while larvae were less abundant (3 - 54 larvae.m-2), both located beyond the continental shelf. Thirteen species of euphausiids were identified, with Euphausia mucronata being the most abundant and widespread species across the study area. Zooplankton biovolumes ranged from 0.010 to 5.4 mL.m-3, with biovolumes less than 0.5 mL.m-3 being the most frequent (73 %).
