Abstract

This research shows the effects obtained when five-month-old juveniles of the freshwater angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) were treated with different concentrations of the Indian almond leaf extract (Terminalia catappa L.). The standard length in centimeters (SL), from the front end of the mouth to the base of the caudal fin and the weight in grams, was evaluated during six months. The results show that the concentration of the extract is not determinant (P> 0.05) in the increase of length and weight gain, reaching a mean of 4.15 cm SL and 3.45 g in weight. Nonetheless, the size distribution was affected by the second treatment (0.5 g/L) which achieved greater uniformity, with a mean SL of 4.29 cm (P <0.05).
