Poblaciones de Fitoplancton, nutrientes y fotosíntesis en aguas costeras peruanas

Se presenta los resultados de producción primaria, nutrientes y fitoplancton en áreas seleccionadas en la Corriente del Perú. Se encontraron dos condiciones diferentes, una de aguas que contenían abundancia de nutrientes con activo crecimiento de fitoplancton y relativamente bajo "standing stock" (aguas azules) y otra con grandes existencias de fitoplancton (aguas marrones). La población planctónica en las aguas azules era menos diversa y el tamaño celular promedio demasiado pequeño como par ser utilizado como alimento por la anchoveta. Se discuten las razones que motivan la existencia de aguas altamente fértiles con bajo "standing stock".
