Eureka Operations: an aproach to the abundance of Peruvian anchoveta during the period 1966-1982

The development of acoustic assessments on pelagic resources carried out in Peru from 1983 to 2000, has allowed to create a wide database. This data has been grouped according to the alternation of normal, warm and cold periods; these periods have also been grouped seasonally, in order to establish the relationships between the abundance of anchovy and the magnitude of its distribution areas. In this way, 12 lineal regressions have been obtained and they have been used to estimate the existent biomass at the moment of realizing most of the Eureka Operations from 1966 to 1982. The distribution charts of these surveys have been digitized and the magnitudes of the areas of anchovy's distribution have been obtained. A comparison of the landing fluctuations with the abundance of anchovy determined by Eureka Operations has also been done, discussing the biases that these approaches may contain.
