Abstract

This paper presents general aspects of the Peruvian anchovy fishery in the north-central stock from 1961 to 1999. Virtual population analysis (VPA) was applied, using biological and fisheries data from research cruises conducted by IMARPE (Peruvian Marine Research Institute) and from industrial fleet operations. Natural mortality rates (M, between 1.0 and 0.75) were used, and catch and effort data, based on gross registered tonnage per voyage (GRT•Vje), were used for the tuning processes. It was determined that in the Peruvian anchovy fishery in the north-central stock, there is a high correlation between fishing effort and catches.
